HOME RUN FOR LOCAL BASEBALL CLUB
WANNEROO Giants Baseball Club has received a $20,000 boost thanks to Dr Anne Aly MP and the Stronger Communities Program.
Cowan MP Anne Aly said the grant was given to help the club install a new LED wireless scoreboard.
“This is great news for the club and its members,” Dr Aly said.
“The Giants are the largest baseball club in WA, and this new scoreboard will put them on the map as they push to host National baseball tournaments here in the northern suburbs.”
Club life-member Darren Riley said he was pleased with the funding because the project was not something the club could afford without help.
“Thanks to the grant we'll be able to get this new scoreboard and really put the cherry on top of our new clubrooms and ground facilities,” Mr Riley said.
“The club is all volunteer-based, so we’re excited this grant is giving us the opportunity to put our name out there and promote baseball as a safe and educational sport.”
Dr Aly said she loved being able to assist local organisations through the Stronger Communities Program.
“I am so proud of the Wanneroo Giants and what they do for our community, so I’m really happy to be able to make even a small difference to their club,” Dr Aly said.
“I congratulate the whole team at Wanneroo Giants Baseball Club and I can’t wait to see the new scoreboard in action.”
The Stronger Communities Programme provides grants, between $5,000 and $20,000, to not-for-profit organisations and local Governments for small capital works projects that improve our local community.
The Cowan Community Consultative Committee has approved a total of 10 projects in this round of the Programme, with $141,075 worth of grants contributed to works in our local community.
